San Ramon Valley Unified Schools

The San Ramon Valley Unified School District has rehired permanent teachers who had received layoff notices.  This is good news! I hope more teachers are hired back as the children deserve all the education we can provide.  I was upset after the district sent 236 layoff notices to teachers of which more than 50% worked at the new Dougherty High School.  The San Ramon Valley Unified School district has an enrollment of 27,106 students contained in twenty-one elementary schools, eight middle schools, four high schools, and two alternative and continuation high schools.   The budget for 2009-1o is $215.50 million and this represents a budget hit of $11.7 million from the previous year.  Luckily in May, the Measure C $144 per parcel tax will bring in $6.7 million per year.  Since the district is still growing, more money revenue will continue to come from the state.   The district’s education program foundation, including individual school fundraising and donations to athletic programs bring in roughly $14 million per year.  This is incredible, let’s all do what we can to support all of our local schools.
